Genealogical research on the Kondratiuk family is bedevilled by the many spellings of “Kondratiuk” found on source documents. According to census records Prokop could read and write Ukrainian but did not speak English. It appears that he had difficulty communicating the English spelling of his name. Some misspellings might also have occurred when transcribing the name from the Cyrillic to English alphabet.
