Prokop and Anna Kondratiuk and their family probably lived in or near Uhrynów from 1891 or earlier until 1906. Prokop was employed as a farm labourer so it is possible that the family lived on a farm in the vicinity of the village. Their first three children, Anastazia, Pauline and Sam were all born in Uhrynów.
When the Kondratiuk family lived there Uhrynów was a village in the Kingdom of Galicia, a region of the Austro-Hungary. Today Uhrynów is located in western Ukraine about 1 km from the Polish border and about 85 km north of the city of Lviv.

Pauline Kondratiuk told her daughter Frances that the family came from Uhrynów, near Sokol, in Poland. Uhrynów is also referred to in English as Uhryniv.
