This family history website contains a record of the ancestors and siblings of Anastazia Kondratiuk, known for much of her life as Nettie. Anastazia was born in 1892 in Galicia. In 1906 she emigrated to Canada with her parents and siblings and settled in Winnipeg. In 1907 at the age of 14 she married Martin Bobowsky, also an immigrant from Galicia. Anastazia and Martin raised six children in North End Winnipeg until they separated in the early 1930s. Not long afterwards Anastazia moved to Toronto where most of her children were then living. She worked as an office cleaner and seamstress until her death in 1946.

The starting point for our understanding of the Kondratiuk family is a page in a family bible where Martin Bobowsky thoughtfully recorded the members of Anastazia’s family. Martin probably made the original entries, which are in a mix of English and Cyrillic script, circa 1908

This website is focused on the Kondratiuk family. Information on the descendants of Martin and Anastazia, including their children and grandchildren can be found at martinbobowsky.name.

The information here is based on the memories of family members who knew Anastazia and her family supplemented by genealogical research. It is intended for those of her descendants who want to know more about their family origins. It is also, hopefully, for our more distant cousins who share our ancestry and might benefit from or add to our knowledge.

The People section of this site contains information about members of the Kondratiuk family, including biographical sketches, photographs, census records, and civil registration certificates. No information on living family members is posted on this site. The Places section describes many of the houses where family members lived, places they worked, churches they attended and places they are buried. The Historical Context section attempts to portray something of the world these family members inhabited and includes links to relevant sites for those who want to know more.

The late William Bobbs and the late Ralph Magid constructed our family tree, which was the starting point for this project. Eric McIntyre’s compilation of “The Family, Relatives and Descendants of Joseph Galdzinski and His Wife Pauline Kondratiuk” made a significant contribution to the research on this site.
